Special Days Celebrated at SchoolBirthdaysWe are happy to celebrate your child’s birthday in class, and you are welcome to come take part in the celebration. You can have fun creating a "timeline" of your child's life for him/her to share at the birthday celebration. A poster with a picture from each year of your child's life is most popular, but feel free to be creative. Be sure to schedule the day and time that you would like to celebrate your child's birthday with the teacher (usually in the morning group around 10:45 for the Primary). If you would like to bring a snack to share, we prefer it to be low in sugar and not too messy. Some options: mini muffins, fresh fruit, unfrosted mini cupcakes, or cookies without decoration. It is better if you bring all of one kind, rather than a variety. Please take care not to bring anything that might pose a choking hazard. We also ask that you not bring "goody bags", or have decorations like toys and rings on the cupcakes. The class celebrates with a simple ceremony that is very beautiful and meaningful to your child, so nothing extra is needed. Please mail birthday invitations as we do not give them out at school. HolidaysHolidays are celebrated in each classroom according to the discretion of the classroom teacher. HalloweenWe do not celebrate Haloween at school. The children do not wear Halloween costumes to school. At this time of year, we have a Fall celebration. In the past, the parents and school have coordinated together to plan a Fall Festival which also serves as a fundraiser. ThanksgivingThere is usually no parent involvement during this celebration. ChristmasWe usually host a parent and school celebration held off site. In recent years this has taken the form of a Winter Party with pot-luck, entertainment, an art gallery with children's framed art work, and gifts presented to charity. Valentine's DayWe do not have a celebration at school on Valentine’s Day. However, if you and your child would like to give his/her classmates a card, you are welcome to do so and we will be happy to pass them out. Please address all cards “To My Friend”, and “From (your child’s name). Your child will be making his/her Valentine bag in the classroom. Our prirmary classroom size average is 25 students. SpringThe parent group organizes a family field day on a Saturday in the spring.
